OLD Accommodation for Disability

OLD Accommodation for Disability

As part of Virginia University of Integrative Medicine’s commitment to upholding the letter and spirit of the laws that ensures equal treatment of people with disabilities, the university established and reasonably maintains the disability services to accommodate qualified individuals with disabilities upon request.
Disability Services is available to serve all students with disabilities, including those with cognitive (e.g., learning, psychological, and closed head injury), sensory, mobility, and other physical impairments.

A professional assessment of a student or employee disability is required before the services can be engaged. If such an assessment is needed, the Director of Student Affairs or Academic Dean has a list of referrals where such assessments can be obtained. For current or prospective students, a formal request for accommodations should be submitted to the Director of Student Affairs and Academic Dean.

VUIM implements and coordinates reasonable accommodations and disability-related services to afford equal access to university programs and activities. Seeking to support the well-being of students with disabilities, the office:

• Promotes equal access to students with disabilities in curricular and co-curricular activities within the university experience.
• Fosters partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to create environments that are accessible, diverse, and inclusive.
• Empowers students to fully participate in the university community.

VUIM welcomes and encourages all students with disabilities, including those not currently registered with any disability service requirements to engage in the diversity dialogue on campus by getting involved with the University community and other multicultural programs and activities.
