We’re thrilled to share the success of our recent Continuing Education Unit (CEU) event, which brought together an exceptional group of licensed acupuncturists, students, and industry experts. The day was filled with invaluable knowledge and a shared commitment to advancing our profession.
A Grateful Thank You
We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation to the incredible individuals who made this event a remarkable success. To the dedicated students and seasoned acupuncturists who actively participated, we are truly grateful for your unwavering support. Your enthusiasm for our field, coupled with your relentless commitment to ongoing learning and growth, serves as a beacon of inspiration for the entire community. Your presence and active engagement were pivotal in making this event an educational and collaborative triumph. Thank you for being the driving force behind our shared journey to advance the art and science of acupuncture.
Meet Michael Taromina, Esq.
A highlight of our event was hosting Michael Taromina, an eminent authority in acupuncture and Oriental Medicine law and ethics. With over a decade of experience in litigation, education, advocacy, and authorship, Michael has been a staunch advocate for the protection and advancement of the AOM profession in the United States.
As the Chair of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine’s (NCCAOM) Professional Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, Michael played a pivotal role in drafting the NCCAOM’s Code of Ethics and Grounds for Discipline. He has overseen the adjudication of numerous acupuncture misconduct cases nationwide.
Michael’s pro bono legal counsel and advisory services have been instrumental to AOM state and national associations, earning him several prestigious awards, including the AAAOM Award for Excellence and the NCCAOM Service Award.
Insights Shared
At our event, attendees gained invaluable insights into disciplinary matters and trends across the country. Michael shared his expertise and risk management strategies to mitigate or avoid disciplinary complaints, litigation, and legal/ethical challenges that well-intentioned practitioners may encounter. The course covered a wide range of topics, and Michael generously addressed all questions relevant to our profession and its practitioners. This event also offered 3 NCCAOM-approved PDA units.
A Unified Effort for Advocacy
We are proud to report that the NCCAOM leadership demonstrated their unwavering support for our profession. In conjunction with the launch of VUIM’s new CEU programming initiatives, the University’s leadership will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the successful CEU event toward advocacy behalf of the profession. 50% of the evening’s proceeds will be offered to the American Society of Acupuncturists with the remaining 50% of proceeds given to the Acupuncture Society of Virginia, with a special directive that all funds be earmarked for the exclusive purpose of promoting advocacy for the AOM profession. This event was an instrumental fundraiser for both federal advocacy through ASA and local advocacy through ASVA, strengthening our profession on multiple fronts.
In closing, we extend our heartfelt thanks to NCCAOM for their crucial backing, to Michael Taromina for his enlightening lectures, and to all the participants who joined us. Your involvement and support are key drivers in our shared journey to enhance and protect the acupuncture profession.
